This Official First Day Cover bears a block of four 13¢ US Bicentennial stamps reproducing Charles Willson Peale’s “Washington at Princeton 1777.” The stamps are tied by a crisp January 3, 1977 Princeton, New Jersey postmark—the exact first-day city chosen to honor the battle’s 200th anniversary.

The Battle of Princeton, fought on January 3, 1777, was one of the most decisive engagements of the American Revolution. After a daring night march, Washington’s troops surprised and routed British forces, restoring American morale and convincing many that the Revolution could succeed. The cachet’s title, “The Nine Days that Saved the Revolution,” refers to the Trenton–Princeton campaign that turned the tide in those critical winter weeks.

A striking large portrait of Washington dominates the left side of the cover, accompanied by a contemporary quote praising his military brilliance. The cachet was produced by Philadelphia ’76, the official organizer of the nation’s Bicentennial celebrations, making this an authentic commemorative issued for the event.

Collectors will appreciate the clean condition, vivid multicolor cachet, and the desirable Princeton, NJ first-day cancel. An attractive addition for Revolutionary War, Bicentennial, or Peale topical collections.
