This ArtCraft Official First Day Cover features the 13-cent US Bicentennial stamp commemorating General Nicholas Herkimer at the Battle of Oriskany, postmarked in Herkimer, New York on August 6, 1977.

The Battle of Oriskany, fought on August 6, 1777, was a pivotal engagement in the Saratoga campaign of the American Revolutionary War. Herkimer, leading Tryon County militiamen, was mortally wounded while attempting to relieve the siege of Fort Stanwix, yet his forces helped blunt the British advance and contributed to the eventual American victory at Saratoga.

The cachet reproduces the dramatic scene of the wounded general directing his troops, while the stamp itself is based on a painting by artist Frederick Coffay Yohn. The cover is inscribed “Herkimer at Oriskany 1777 by Yohn” and carries the ArtCraft logo.

A strong addition for collectors of Revolutionary War, Bicentennial, or ArtCraft FDCs, this cover remains in excellent condition with a clear first-day cancel and attractive dual artwork.
