This official First Day Cover bears the 13¢ New Jersey stamp issued as part of the Bicentennial Era series, cancelled in Washington, DC on February 23, 1976.

The stamp depicts the New Jersey state coat of arms. The cachet honors Richard Stockton (1730–1781), a New Jersey lawyer, jurist, and signer of the Declaration of Independence, featuring his statue and noting New Jersey’s ratification of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 as the third state.

A notable detail is the blue “Bicentennial Era 1776-1976” logo and the “Official First Day Cover” inscription at the bottom, tying the cover directly to the national celebration of America’s founding.

This clean, well-centered cover makes an excellent addition to any bicentennial, signer, or state-flag topical collection.
