This official Canada Post first day cover commemorates the 1973 issue honoring Canadian landscape painter J.E.H. MacDonald (1873-1932). The cover bears a block of four 15¢ stamps reproducing his 1922 oil painting "Mist Fantasy," cancelled on the day of issue in Ottawa, Ontario on June 8, 1973.
MacDonald was a founding member of the Group of Seven, whose bold, colorful depictions of the Canadian wilderness helped define a national artistic identity in the early twentieth century. The stamps were printed by Ashton-Potter Limited of Toronto, whose imprint appears on the cover.
A notable detail is the bilingual "Day of issue / Jour d'émission" inscription and the striking green cachet portrait of the artist on the left panel, produced specifically for this release.
A fine addition for collectors of Canadian art topicals, Group of Seven issues, or worldwide FDCs, this cover is in excellent condition with crisp strikes and vibrant stamp colors.
