This 1968 ArtCraft First Day Cover features the 6¢ Philadelphia Light Horse Flag stamp from the U.S. Historic Flags Series, postmarked on the first day of issue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on July 4, 1968.
The stamp honors the distinctive yellow cavalry standard carried by the First City Troop of Philadelphia Light Horse during the Revolutionary War, one of the earliest American flags to incorporate the thirteen stripes that would later define the national banner.
The striking black-and-white cachet depicts the Bellman of Independence Hall ringing the Liberty Bell to announce the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, with a detailed illustration of Independence Hall itself and the series motto “Liberty Throughout the Land.”
Addressed to John W. Lynch, M.D. in Seaford, Delaware, the cover remains in clean, collectible condition with a crisp Pittsburgh postmark and well-centered stamp.
A fine addition for collectors of Revolutionary War themes, flag topicals, or ArtCraft cachets.
