This 1964 Artmaster First Day Cover features the United States 5¢ Fine Arts stamp honoring the first abstract art stamp issued by the U.S. Post Office. The block of four stamps is postmarked Washington, DC on December 2, 1964, the official first day of issue.

The stamp design marked a notable departure for American philately, introducing non-representational art to U.S. postage. Issued during a period of growing interest in modern art, it reflected the cultural shift toward abstraction in the mid-1960s.

The Artmaster cachet illustrates an artist at work before an abstract canvas and prominently notes that this was “the first abstract art stamp the United States has issued.”

The cover is addressed to George C. Graf in Chatham, New Jersey, a historic Morris County community known for its early American heritage.

A clean, well-centered example with the distinctive Artmaster cachet, this FDC is an appealing addition for collectors of art-themed stamps or 1960s U.S. postal history.
